CAPE TOWN, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South Africa's major media outlets on Sunday.

-- President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday issued a stern rebuke to Finance Minister Tito Mboweni and Gauteng Premier David Makhura following their heated exchange on social media over the contentious e-tolls saga.

Mboweni and Makhura were embroiled in a Twitter spat after the finance minister sparked the debate on Thursday night when he insisted "users must pay" for e-tolls. (Independent Online)

-- Finance Minister Mboweni's comments on e-tolls ruffled the feathers of the African National Congress' tripartite alliance in Gauteng Province.

The party's alliance partner in the province, the Congress of South African Trade Unions, lashed out at Mboweni for his defiance about e-tolls being part of government policy. (Eyewitness News)

-- Parliament said on Saturday that National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise and National Council of Provinces Chairperson Amos Masondo will await official correspondence from Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, in order for her recommendation to be considered by Parliament.

This came after Mkhwebane said Modise should refer Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to the Joint Ethics and Members Interest Committee. (South African Broadcasting Corporation) Enditem
