GENEVA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- On the last day of its 41st session on Friday, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution submitted by China titled "The contribution of development to the enjoyment of all human rights".

This was the second time that the UN rights body adopted a resolution submitted by China on development issues. The first was adopted on June 22, 2017.

Reaffirming that all human rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent and interrelated, the resolution says that the international community must treat human rights globally in a fair and equal manner, on the same footing and with the same emphasis, and meeting the aspiration of the people for a better life is the priority of each State.

The resolution further reaffirms the significant contribution of development to the enjoyment of all human rights by all, and recognizes that development and the realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms are interdependent and mutually reinforcing.

It calls upon all countries to promote sustainable development to enable better enjoyment of human rights and to achieve gender equality, and to realize people-centered development of the people, by the people and for the people.

Li Song, chargé d'affaires of the Permanent Mission of China to UN at Geneva, introduced the resolution Friday by saying that development is the eternal theme of human society, the basis and key to solving all problems, and the strong appeal and unremitting pursuit of the vast number of developing countries.

Development has created conditions for the realization of all human rights, and only better development can better promote human rights, he said.

At present, Li added, global development is still unbalanced, uncoordinated and inadequate, which has a negative impact on the full enjoyment of human rights by all countries, especially those in developing countries.

Achieving common development and working together to promote human rights are the common aspirations of all countries, he said.

"China calls on all parties to work with China to support multilateralism, demonstrate the spirit of cooperation, and translate the commitment to support development and promote human rights into practical action," Li added.

Li told Xinhua that the adoption of the resolution by an overwhelming majority is another successful practice of China's participation in the improvement of the global human rights governance.

"This showed that China-initiated concepts, such as building a community with shared future for mankind, a people-centered development and promoting human rights through development, have gained increasingly popular support," he said. Enditem
