KUWAIT CITY, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait seized 10 million Tamol pills enlisted among narcotics that affect human mental condition, the Kuwaiti Customs Directorate General said on Friday.

Jamal Al-Jalawi, Director of the Kuwaiti Customs Directorate General, said in a statement that the banned drugs were seized by personnel of the customs warehouses management at Shuwaikh Port.

The pills were in a container and shipped from an Asian country, Al-Jalawi said, adding that the importer tried to smuggle the shipment illegally into Kuwait and when he failed, he attempted to send the drugs abroad.

Musaed Al-Hlailah, inspection supervisor at the Shuwaikh port, said that the smugglers attempted to bring the cargo in a 40-feet container with a manifest reading electrical and medical appliances.

Contents of the container were examined after the importer tried to reship them, he said, noting that screening devices showed that carton boxes in the container were packed with the prohibited pills.

Drugs are illegal in Kuwait and medical prescription for some cases of physical or psychological illnesses are subject to regulations and terms. Enditem
