ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's Minister of Planning, Development and Reforms Khusro Bakhtiar said on Saturday that a comprehensive plan is being made to develop Gwadar port in the country's southwest Balochistan province on modern lines, under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Addressing a press conference here, Bakhtiar said that the country's blue economy has a huge potential and a comprehensive plan is being made to enable Gwadar to emerge as a leading trading port in the region. (Pakistan-Port)

QALA-E-NAW, Afghanistan -- At least three police officers and two assailants were killed and 16 people injured after Taliban gunmen seized a hotel and fired on nearby buildings in Qala-e-Naw, capital of Afghanistan's western province of Badghis on Saturday, a local official said.
"Four terrorists seized a hotel building at 12:40 p.m. local time in Chawk-e-Pista locality of Qala-e-Naw city. WELLINGTON -- New Zealand gun owners were compensated more than 433,682 New Zealand dollars (290,346 U.S. dollars) on Saturday after they handed in their weapons, which have been made illegal following the March 15 Christchurch mosque shootings.

MANILA -- At least 25 people were injured and several houses, churches and buildings were damaged when a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Sur province in southern Philippines early on Saturday, a government disaster report said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake, which struck at 4:42 a.m. local time (2042 GMT Friday), hit at a depth of 5 km, about 9 km southeast of Carrascal town in the northeast coast of Mindanao island.(Philippines-Earthquake) Enditem
