BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.4 percent, at 2,942.19 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.04 percent higher at 9,309.42 points.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Monday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,672.37, up 2.92 points or 0.17 percent, and the Emas was at 11,867.43, up 23.18 points or 0.20 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.28 percent, or 9.39 points, to close at 3,347.95.

A total of 1.37 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 875.59 million Singapore dollars (about 645.51 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 217 to 200.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 83.26 points, or 0.29 percent, to 28,554.88 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,071.19 and 28,567.25. Turnover totaled 71.37 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.11 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Monday.

Benchmark indices continued to trade higher, driven largely by Infosys after its Q1 earnings.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market fell on Monday.

The S&P/NZX 50 Index decreased 34.87 points, or 0.33 percent, to 10,666.56. Within the index, 22 stocks went down, 24 up, and four were unchanged. Turnover was 110.4 million New Zealand dollars. Enditem
