MUMBAI -- Mumbai reported the first suspected swine-flu death of this monsoon season out of the 36 cases reported so far this month by the Indian city's civic hospitals, an officer from the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation said on Monday.

The patient, a 26-year-old woman, was believed to have succumbed to the H1N1 virus on Saturday night after she stopped responding to the treatment. (India-Swine Flu-Death)

DHAKA -- At least eight people were killed when a train ploughed into a minibus Monday evening at a rail crossing in Bangladesh.

Seven people were also injured in the accident in Bangladesh's Sirajganj district, 134 km northwest of the capital Dhaka at about 6:45 p.m. local time, said a police official.

The official who declined to be named said the Padma Express train bound for the capital Dhaka rammed into the minibus which was crossing the unmanned crossing. (Bangladesh-Train-Minibus)

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Nine civilians were killed and 18 others injured in a landmine explosion in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Monday, the provincial governor said Monday.

DHAKA -- The flooding in almost one-third of Bangladesh districts has left at least 20 people dead, affected half a million people and displaced thousands of families, a disaster official said on Monday.

ISLAMABAD -- A coalmine in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province collapsed due to the accumulation of poisonous gas, trapping 11 miners thousands of feet deep underground, local media and officials said on Monday.

Shafqat Fayyaz, minister of Mines and Minerals Development of Balochistan, said that one mine worker was brought to safety during a rescue operation, while efforts are underway to recover the remaining 11 miners, who have been trapped for over 20 hours in the coal mine in Quetta, the provincial capital of the province.
