MAPUTO, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The national airline of Mozambique, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM), seeks to resume flight to the European airspace again by the first quarter of 2020, announced the Minister of Transport and Communications Carlos Mesquita on Monday.
The minister was speaking during the opening session of the country's first International Conference on Air Transport, Tourism and Air Cargo, in Maputo.
"There is work being done based on our air agreements with several countries (in Europe), but we are thinking to start at the end of the first quarter of 2020 with Portugal, in a partnership with a Portuguese company and the terms are still under discussion," said Mesquita.
The ban for LAM from operating into the European Union dates back to April 2011 allegedly due to security deficiencies.
In May 2017, aviation authorities of the European Union decided to remove LAM from the blacklist after the "further improvements of the aviation safety situation" in the southeast African country.
Following the lift of the ban, the flow of passengers using LAM's aircraft is expected to grow gradually, said the minister. Enditem
