LUSAKA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Tuesday. -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu is expected to travel to Kenya to attend the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) International Trade Fair and Business Summit.

Joseph Malanji, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said programs aimed at enhancing regional trade are important, especially that the country signed the Africa Continental Free Trade agreement. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia's governing Patriotic Front (PF) has opposed calls for the reintroduction of the position of deputy ministers in cabinet as it was a costly venture.

Davies Mwila, the party's secretary-general, said the party supports government's austerity measures aimed to cutting down costs and does not support calls for reintroduction of deputy ministers. (Times of Zambia)

-- Canadian mining giant, Barrick Gold Corporation, has refuted reports that it plans to sell its mining unit in Zambia.

Mark Bristow, the firm's chief executive officer said they have no plans to sell Lumwana Copper Mine because the mining company was a big asset. (Daily Nation)

-- Zambia's celebrated soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya has dismissed reports that he was supporting Mauritius Football Association chairperson Samir Sobha for the July 18 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee elections.

Bwalya, the former president of the country's soccer governing body and 1988 African Footballer of the Year, said the reports were fake. (The Mast) Enditem
