MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Tuesday. Benchmark indices rallied further in last hour of trade as all sectoral indices were higher.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 39,131.04, 234.33 points or 0.60 percent up compared to its previous close at 38,896.71.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,668.94 down 3.43 points or 0.21 percent, and the Emas was at 11,857.28 down 10.15 points or 0.09 percent.

There were 407 gainers,450 losers and 412 counters traded unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.36 percent, or 12.08 points, to close at 3,360.03.

A total of 1.17 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 854.44 million Singapore dollars (about 629.52 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 208 to 182.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 64.74 points, or 0.23 percent, to 28,619.62 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,489.41 and 28,634.65. Turnover totaled 65.58 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 8.39 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand shares fell for a second day on light volumes during Tuesday trading.

The S&P/NZX 50 Index fell 15.36 points, or 0.14 percent, to 10,651.20. Within the index, 26 stocks decreased, 15 increased, and nine were unchanged. Turnover was 83.7 million New Zealand dollars, with just five companies trading on volumes of more than a million shares.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar offset a solid lead from Wall Street overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 150.65 points, or 0.69 percent, from Friday to close the day at 21,535.25.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 1.79 points, or 0.29 percent, to close at 620.5.
