LONDON, July 18 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.56 percent, or 42.37 points, to close at 7,493.09 points.
British American Tobacco, a tobacco group, soared 6.14 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Imperial Brands and Centrica increased by 2.19 percent and 1.82 percent, respectively.
Fresnillo, a Mexican-based precious metals mining company, suffered most with its shares losing 9.12 percent. Johnson Matthey, a global science and chemicals company, dropped 4.93 percent. Ashtead Group, a British industrial equipment rental company, fell 3.40 percent. Enditem
