BUENOS AIRES, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo have reached a deal to sign Brazil international left-back Filipe Luis, according to widespread reports in Brazil's media.
Luis agreed to personal terms of a two-and-a-half year contract late on Saturday after weeks of negotiations, according to the Globo newspaper. It added that a formal announcement was expected within hours.
The 33-year-old, who ended a nine-year spell at Atletico Madrid in May, had also been linked with Bayer Leverkusen and Barcelona.
Luis is the latest in a series of recent high-profile signings by Flamengo. Others to have joined the club this year include former Bayern Munich right-back Rafinha, Inter Milan loanee Gabriel Barbosa, Uruguay international midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta and former Manchester City defender Pablo Mari.
Flamengo are currently third in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings after 10 rounds, six points behind leaders Palmeiras.
The five-time top flight champions are managed by former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon boss Jorge Jesus, who replaced Abel Braga in June. Enditem
