BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.27 percent to 2,886.97 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.15 percent lower at 9,122.64 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower on Monday.

Among sectors, Banks and FMCG indices ended 1 percent lower, while buying was seen in the metal, pharma, energy, IT and auto.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Monday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,655.40, down 2.79 points or 0.17 percent, and the Emas was at 11,720.38 down 19.84 points or 0.17 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.61 percent, or 20.74 points, to close at 3,357.22.

A total of 1.20 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 773.86 million Singapore dollars (about 569.01 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 160 to 258.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 982.04 points on Monday, down 0.30 points, or 0.03 percent against the previous trading day.

Nearly 164.372 million shares worth 4.069 trillion Vietnamese dong (176.9 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Specifically, foreign investors bought 13.964 million shares totaling 505.24 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 22 million U.S. dollars), and sold 11.401 million shares totaling 348.44 billion Vietnamese dong (15.1 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 106.76 points on Monday, down 0.31 points, or 0.29 percent from the previous trading session.

Over 30.9 million shares worth more than 422 billion Vietnamese dong (18.3 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 249,920 shares valued at over 2 billion Vietnamese dong (87,435 U.S. dollars), and sold 770,716 shares valued at roughly 13.1 billion Vietnamese dong (569,217 U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 394.14 points, or 1.37 percent, to 28,371.26 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,303.55 and 28,649.44. Turnover totaled 67.75 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 8.67 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market went up for a fourth trading day, outperforming the rest of Asian market, as exporters including A2 Milk, Mainfreight, and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare all gained.

The S&P/NZX 50 Index increased 71.54 points, or 0.67 percent, to a record of 10,824.69 points. Within the index 29 stocks grew, 11 retreated, and 10 were unchanged. Turnover was 144.7 million New Zealand dollars.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.28 percent lower on Monday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 23.24 points to 8,246.83. The all-share index went down by 16.04 points, or 0.32 percent, to 4,994.67.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched down 1.02 points, or 0.05 percent, to settle at 2,093.34. Trading volume stood at 320.4 million shares worth 3.2 trillion won (2.7 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Monday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 0.47 point, or 0.08 percent, to close at 617.48 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Monday, tracking declines on Wall Street and amid concerns about corporate earnings outlooks ahead of October's consumption tax hike from 8 percent to 10 percent.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 50.20 points, or 0.23 percent, from Friday to close the day at 21,416.79.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market ended lower on Monday, with solid gains in oil and mining stocks offset by steep falls in healthcare and industrials sectors.
