LUSAKA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu and visiting United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili on Tuesday held talks on the development of the country's tourism sector.

Speaking during the talks, the Zambian leader said his government was committed to promoting the tourism sector because it was vital to the country's economic development.

According to him, the country's tourism sector had great potential but that the government needed more support to exploit the potential.

The Zambian leader welcomed the UNWTO chief's visit to the country, saying it has come at a time when the country was experiencing effects of climate change on wildlife and human-animal conflict in the tourism sector which requires concerted efforts to tackle.

He said he will engage the UNWTO more in areas where the country's tourism could be developed.

On his part, the UNWTO chief urged Zambia to use its tourism potential for sustainable development and called for collaboration with his organization to create long-term projects that would attract tourists to the country.

He further urged the government to ensure to strengthen airline connectivity as it was vital in the promotion of the country's tourism. Enditem
