LONDON -- Former British Foreign Secretary and ex-mayor of London Boris Johnson was elected the leader of the ruling Conservative party on Tuesday and set to become the country's prime minister.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore has recently seized 8.8 tonnes of elephant ivory, the largest of its kind so far, according to a joint statement issued here Tuesday.

SEOUL -- South Korea's fighter jets on Tuesday fired warning shots at a Russian military aircraft that violated South Korea's airspace above the eastern waters, according to Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) cited by local media reports.

The Russian bomber reportedly trespassed in territorial skies early in the morning near the South Korea-controlled islands of Dokdo (Takeshima), disputed territory between South Korea and Japan, marking the first time that a Russian military airplane violated "the airspace of South Korea." WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted to confirm Mark Esper as secretary of defense, ending a nearly seven-month period that the Pentagon has been without a permanent chief.
