Algeria declares 3-day mourning for Tunisian president's death

ALGIERS, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Algerian interim President Abdelkader Bensalah on Thursday announced a three-day national mourning for the death of Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi.

"Following the death of late Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, head of state, Abdelkader Bensalah, announces three days mourning throughout the country as by Thursday," read a statement of the presidency.

The source added that Bensalah "ordered in this painful circumstance to fly national flags at half-mast all over official institutions and government departments during this mourning period."

Earlier on Thursday, Bensalah extended condolences of Algeria to Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.

Tunisian authorities announced the death of President Beji Caid Essebsi at the age 92 following health crisis, while declaring a seven-day national mourning and flying flags at half-mast and postponing all cultural and musical festivities in the country. Enditem
