CAPE TOWN, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South African major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- The ruling African National Congress (ANC) wants the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) to be in the hands of the people of South Africa, the party's deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte said on Tuesday.

She spoke at a media briefing following the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Pretoria over the weekend.(Fin24)

-- Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane on Tuesday rejected claims that she was "flagged" by an international banking institution, HSBC, as having financial links to the Indian Gupta family.

The allegations are contained in a report by a non-profit organization, Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).(Eyewitness News)

-- Former crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli was found guilty of four counts of intimidation and two counts of kidnapping at the High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
