DAMASCUS, July 31 (Xinhua) -- An unknown warplane struck a Syrian military site after midnight in northeastern Syria, killing one pro-government fighter, a war monitor reported Wednesday.

The unknown aircraft stuck the Regiment-54 in the Rashdiyeh town, 20 km south of the northeastern city of Qamishli, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based watchdog group said the warplane fired a thermal missile on the site, noting that it wasn't clear whether it was with the U.S.-led coalition or an Israeli one.

Meanwhile, the pro-government al-Watan newspaper said earlier on Wednesday that one civilian was killed in a missile fired by the U.S.-led coalition on the town of Rashdiyeh.

Israeli and U.S.-led warplanes have repeatedly targeted Syrian military sites across the country.

The Syrian government, while condemning the Israeli strikes, has repeatedly called on the UN Security Council to push for dissolving the U.S. coalition, which has been present in Syria since 2014. Enditem
