TOKYO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower on Friday as the investor sentiment was dampened by renewed trade concerns and the future course of the global economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 387.54 points, or 1.80 percent, from Thursday to 21,153.45.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 23.93 points, or 1.53 percent, at 1,543.42.

All industry categories retreated into negative territory, with marine transportation, iron and steel, and mining-linked issues comprising those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the opening bell. Enditem
