TOKYO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply lower Friday as a global equities rout on renewed concerns over trade issues and the future outlook for the global economy hammered sentiment here.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plummeted 453.83 points, or 2.11 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,087.16.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, tumbled 33.89 points, or 2.16 percent, to finish at 1,533.46.
All industry categories closed in negative territory, with metal, iron and steel, and marine transportation-linked issues comprising those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
