HARARE, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Zimbabwe's major media outlets on Friday.

-- The Zimbabwe government and the oil industry have broken an impasse over duty payment, in a development expected to improve fuel supplies following week-long challenges.

Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) acting CEO Eddington Mazambani said most service stations had started taking delivery of fuel from Msasa and Mabvuku after an agreement was struck between the oil industry and the government. (The Herald)

-- There was chaos and drama in Parliament on Thursday as tempers flared when Finance minister Mthuli Ncube and Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi ignored issues raised by opposition MDC Alliance MPs and Norton legislator Temba Mliswa (Independent) over illegalities in the 2019 mid-term supplementary budget presented last week.

MPs abandoned the debate after they failed to get satisfactory answers on whether Ncube's 10 billion Zimbabwe dollars supplementary budget took into cognisance the prevailing interbank exchange rate and accused ZANU-PF of not taking seriously the fact that the nation was facing an economic crisis. -- Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority chief executive Eddington Mazambani on Thursday said it would be difficult to keep fuel prices stagnant given that duty is now calculated as a percentage of cost.

Mazambani had appeared before the Gabuza Joel Gabbuza-led Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Energy to speak on issues pertaining to the fuel price, which has been rising weekly and is now at 9.06 cents for diesel and 9.01 for petrol. (Newsday) Enditem
