BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.71 percent, at 2,774.75 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.39 percent lower at 8,795.18 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.00 percent to close at 1,507.71 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Friday. After a steep fall followed by consolidation in early part of the week, the market has broken on upside with full force.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 37,581.91, 254.55 points or 0.68 percent up compared to its previous close at 37,327.36.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended mixed here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,615.05 down 0.97 points or 0.06 percent, and the Emas was at 11,440.33 up 0.26 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 974.34 points on Friday, down 0.90 points, or 0.09 percent against the previous trading day.

On Friday, VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 878.62 points, up 2.81 points or 0.32 percent.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 102.79 points on Friday, down 0.12 points or 0.11 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 77 stocks went up, 60 stocks dropped, while 229 stocks remained unchanged.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 181.47 points, or 0.69 percent, to 25,939.3 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,939.3 and 26,313.78. Turnover totaled 68.53 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 8.74 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 1.13 points, or 0.18 percent, to close at 623.59.

A total of 339 shares worth 1.7 million riel (418 U.S. dollars) were traded.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as the market mood was buoyed by solid gross domestic product data for the April-June quarter here beating median forecasts, with support also coming from solid U.S. and European shares overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 91.47 points, or 0.44 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 20,684.82.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 17.14 points, or 0.89 percent, to settle at 1,937.75. Trading volume stood at 644 million shares worth 4.9 trillion won (4 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished higher on Friday, despite having a rocky session, with tech stocks supporting the broader index with help from resources.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 16.70 points or 0.25 percent at 6,584.80, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 21.80 points or 0.33 percent at 6,664.10. Enditem
