THE HAGUE, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Strong summer wind caused trouble in parts of the Netherlands on Saturday. One death was reported and the stadium of soccer club AZ partly collapsed.

At the village of Linschoten in the province of Utrecht, a cyclist was killed after a falling tree hit him at around 2:30 p.m. local time.

At the Scheveningen Boulevard near The Hague, two people were injured in the morning after they were hit by flying building material.

Part of the roof of the stadium in Alkmaar, about 20 meters wide, collapsed due to the strong wind. It did not lead to any casualties as the stadium was empty.

"This has surprised us," AZ's general director Robert Eenhoorn told a press conference. "We are shocked, but glad nobody got injured. We will start an investigation. If the situation is not safe, no match will be played in the stadium."

AZ will play away at RKC Waalwijk on Sunday in the Eredivisie and their next home match is on Thursday against Ukrainian side FC Mariupol in the third qualification round of the Europa League.

The wind reached a speed of 100 to 110 kilometers per hour at the coast of the Netherlands and up to 75 kilometers per hour eastwards.

For the first time in 74 years, the Flower Parade Rijnsburg in the province of South Holland was cancelled.

Normally the parade of 65 decorated cars rides through the streets of Rijnsburg, Katwijk and Noordwijk. Enditem
