TIRANA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Albanian Interior Minister Sander Lleshaj on Saturday dismissed the accusation by the opposition Democratic Party (DP), saying Albania has won the fight against cannabis.

Lleshja was responding to recent statements of the DP regarding crime and drugs in Albania following a documentary transmitted in an Italian television program on the social media Facebook.

According to Lleshaj, the documentary on Albania transmitted by the Italian television Rai 3 in a program titled "Narcotics" was enough for the opposition to rush and "jump to hallucinatory conclusions".

On Thursday, DP leader Lulzim Basha claimed that the documentary of the Italian TV station Rai 3 is a serious reflection of the situation of the drug trafficking in Albania and the ties of organized crime with the Albanian government.

Lleshaj, however, said that the truth is very different from what the television program presented.

"Albania has won the fight against cannabis phenomenon thanks to the close cooperation with the Italian partners," Lleshaj wrote.

Furthermore, Lleshja said that the cannabis phenomenon belongs to the past and this is also proven by numbers and statistics, calling the documentary a "mishmash worthy of illustrating the fake news epidemic".

"The criminal networks and organizations operating in this area have been hit hard in all aspects, including financial one," Lleshaj added.

According to Lleshaj, the Italian authorities are well informed on the truth of the fight against cannabis and praised the excellent police cooperation between the two countries. Enditem
