NEW YORK -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower on Monday with seven of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note.

Shares of Ctrip.com International and NetEase fell 3.51 percent and 3.19 percent, respectively, leading the losers in the top 10 stocks of the index. (US-China-Stock)

BRUSSELS -- The first half of 2019 witnessed some 337,200 applications for asylum lodged in the EU+, marking a 10 percent increase from the same period a year earlier, according to the preliminary analyses published by the European Asylum Support Office Monday.

In contrast to this upward trend, in June 2019 applications fell to the lowest level of the year, but there were fewer working days, said the report. The EU+ is composed of 28 EU member states plus Norway and Switzerland. (EU-Refugee)

ADDIS ABABA -- The African Union (AU) on Monday urged its member countries to accelerate the integrated implementation of all existing international and regional commitments to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

The call was made by the AU Peace and Security Council in a statement issued on Monday that followed the Council's latest meeting that was held at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa under the theme "Natural and Other Disasters in Africa: Beyond the Normative Frameworks." TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the U.S. arms sales to some regional states have turned the Gulf region into a "tinderbox ready to blow up," Press TV reported on Monday.

Zarif referred to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia's expenditure on weaponry, saying that "the U.S. (sold) weapons worth 50 billion U.S. dollars to the region last year." (Iran-U.S.-Arms Sales) Enditem
