TOKYO, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower on Tuesday tracking U.S. shares sliding overnight and a firmer yen amid heightening concerns over global trade issues.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 303.95 points, or 1.47 percent, from Friday to 20,380.87
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange ,meanwhile, fell 21.27 points, or 1.41 percent, at 1,482.57.
All industry categories retreated into negative territory, with rubber product, iron and steel, and marine transportation issues comprising those that declined the most.
Japanese markets were closed on Monday for a national holiday. Enditem
