BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Record-breaking former Sao Paulo and Brazil goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni on Tuesday vowed to bring an attacking mindset to his new role as head coach of struggling Brazilian Serie A side Cruzeiro.

Ceni signed a 16-month deal with the Belo Horizonte club on Sunday after walking away from his job as manager of Fortaleza.

The appointment came three days after Cruzeiro sacked former Brazil national team boss Mano Menezes following a 1-0 home loss to Internacional in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil semifinal.

"I have a very different style [to Menezes]," Ceni told reporters. "There is no right or wrong. We will try to make a team that is as fast and aggressive as possible."

Cruzeiro have not won in 11 outings and are 17th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings.

Ceni's first match in charge of the club will be a home clash against league leaders Santos in the top flight on Sunday.

The 46-year-old ended his playing career in 2015 after 1,250 matches for Sao Paulo over 24 seasons. He was capped 16 times for Brazil's national team and was a part of the Selecao squad that won the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

A specialist free-kick and penalty taker, he is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the highest-scoring keeper of all time with 131 goals. Enditem
