BEIJING -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.42 percent at 2,808.91 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.72 percent higher at 8,966.47 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Wednesday buoyed by the metal, infra and banking stocks.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 37,311.53, up 353.37 points, or 0.96 percent, compared to its previous close at 36,958.16.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,600.31 up 7.43 points or 0.47 percent, and the Emas was at 11,335.98 up 45.58 points or 0.40 percent.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 0.78 points, or 0.05 percent to close at 1,619.45 points.

Some 20.32 billion shares worth 71.27 billion baht (about 2.33 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.03 percent, or 0.87 points, to close at 3,147.60.

A total of 1.04 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.28 billion Singapore dollars (about 0.92 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 219 to 195.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, slightly decreased 0.046 percent to 10,849.76 on Wednesday.

Within the index, 25 stocks rose, 18 fell, and 7 were unchanged. Turnover was 137.6 million New Zealand dollars.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 968.91 points on Wednesday, up 2.08 points, or 0.22 percent against the previous trading day.

Nearly 151.49 million shares worth roughly 4.24 trillion Vietnamese dong (184.22 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Specifically, foreign investors bought 10.70 million shares totaling 402.60 billion Vietnamese dong (17.50 million U.S. dollars), and sold 17.63 million shares totaling 625.37 billion Vietnamese dong (27.19 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 101.98 points on Wednesday, down 0.31 points or 0.3 percent from the previous trading session.

Nearly 31.9 million shares worth roughly 439 billion Vietnamese dong (19.1 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 757,900 shares valued at over 5.6 billion Vietnamese dong (244,652 U.S. dollars), and sold 425,757 shares valued at 15.8 billion Vietnamese dong (686,043 U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Wednesday with an increase of 0.07 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 0.54 points, reaching 761.56 points after closing.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 2.95 points, or 0.46 percent, to close at 641.06.

A total of 6,765 shares worth 54.1 million riel (13,258 U.S. dollars) were traded, said a CSX's press release, adding that among the five trading stocks, Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) shared 84.11 percent of the trading value.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 12.54 points, or 0.65 percent, to settle at 1,938.37. Trading volume stood at 687 million shares worth 4.9 trillion won (4 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.90 percent higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 70.20 points to 7,858.65. The all-share index went up by 26.70 points, or 0.56 percent, to 4,768.92.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday as the market mood was buoyed by eased concerns over trade issues, with the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar giving exporters a boost.
