BEIRUT, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon will be capable of manufacturing cars after three weeks for the first time in the country's history, said David Frem, founder of Frem Industry, on Wednesday.
"I have met with Industry and Interior ministers and they have promised to approve decree 128 of the traffic law in the coming two weeks to allow Lebanon to manufacture cars," Frem told Xinhua.
A statement published by the National News Agency (NNA) said that Industry and Interior Ministries met with Frem on Wednesday and they are currently following up on legal procedures with regard to cars production in the country.
"This file will be complete in the coming weeks to finally allow Lebanon to produce vehicles for the first time," NNA reported.
Frem will produce Frem Immortal 550, which will be the world's first military car tailored for civil use.
The car will be priced at around 150,000 U.S. dollars.
"The car is very expensive because we are not exempted from taxes and custom fees on imports of raw materials used in the production of our cars," he said. Enditem
