KHARTOUM, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The chairman of Sudan's Traditional Military Council (TMC) said on Wednesday that the armed forces will protect the country's transition to a democratic rule and preserve goals of the Sudanese revolution.

Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan made the remarks in a speech aired live on Sudan TV on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Sudanese Armed Forces.

"The Sudanese Armed Forces are capable of protecting the transition to a democratic rule in the country and will remain alongside the Sudanese people to achieve prosperity," Al-Burhan said.

The TMC and the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance are expected to sign a final deal on Saturday over the constitutional declaration which determines the governing institutions during the 39-month transitional rule. Enditem
