BEIRUT, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli drone violated Lebanon's airspace over the southern district of Bint Jbeil, then headed towards Marjeyoun while throwing combustible materials, causing fire to erupt off the border town of Houla, local media reported on Friday.

The fire extended into the occupied Palestinian territories, according to the National News Agency.

Also, 15 land mines left behind by Israel exploded due to the flames.

Israeli warplanes have kept violating Lebanon's airspace in the past few months, prompting Lebanese President Michel Aoun to call on the United States to pressure Israel to stop such moves.

Israel and Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group in Lebanon, fought a month-long war in southern Lebanon in 2006 which ended in a cease-fire. Enditem
