MEXICO CITY -- Two members of the military and the chief of police from a municipality in western Mexican state of Jalisco were arrested on charges of arms trafficking, the attorney general's office said on Friday.

According to a report from the prosecution, federal police carried out three simultaneous raid operations in Mexico City and the northeast states of Jalisco and Sinaloa. (Mexico-Arms trafficking)

TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan -- At least seven Taliban militants were killed in guided missile strikes in Afghanistan's Uruzgan province overnight in a latest raid against the Taliban insurgents, the Afghan military said Saturday.

"The strikes were conducted by the NATO-led coalition forces in Hoshi locality, Charchino district Friday night. The intelligence reports found that seven Taliban militants were killed in the raids on the militants' hideouts," Afghan army Corps 205 Attal said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Taliban)

MEXICO CITY -- At least seven people were killed and six others injured in a road accident in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo on Friday, local authorities said.

The accident took place at 08:29 a.m. local time (1329 GMT) along the Mexico-Laredo Highway, near Hidalgo's northeastern municipality of Zimapan, when a pickup lost control and fell off the cliff, the Hidalgo government said in a statement. (Mexico-Accident) Enditem
