BRASILIA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Bruno Henrique celebrated his first call-up to Brazil's national team by scoring twice as Flamengo routed Vasco da Gama 4-1 in their Brazilian Serie A clash here on Saturday.

Inter Milan loanee Gabriel Barbosa and Uruguay playmaker Giorgian de Arrascaeta were also on target for Flamengo, whose former Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves saved two second-half penalties.

Henrique was in an inspired mood at the Mane Garrincha stadium, just a day after he was included in Brazil's squad for September friendlies against Colombia and Peru.

The 28-year-old former Wolfsburg player gave Flamengo the lead on the stroke of halftime by playing a slick one-two with Arrascaeta before thumping a dipping 25-yard drive that left goalkeeper Fernando Miguel with no chance.

Henrique doubled his side's lead just after the interval by slotting in from close range after Gustavo Cuellar's through ball.

Vasco were then awarded a penalty following a Matheus Thuler hand ball but Yago Pikachu's spot-kick was superbly parried clear by Alves.

However Pikachu made amends with the resultant corner by delivering a perfectly weighted ball for Leandro Castan to head in.

Barbosa then struck his 10th goal of the campaign by blasting in from an acute angle after Miguel tipped away another Henrique effort.

Vasco did not yield and they were given another chance from the spot after Arrascaeta brought down Castan in the area. But Alves was again up to the task, diving to his left to keep out Bruno Cesar's haphazard attempt.

Arrascaeta made it 4-1 by converting a late penalty after Henrique was fouled inside the box by Oswaldo Cruz.

The result meant Flamengo overtook Palmeiras in second spot after Luiz Felipe Scolari's side could manage only a 1-1 draw at Gremio.

In other fixtures on Saturday, Athletico Paranaense secured a 1-0 home win over Atletico Mineiro, Internacional won 1-0 at Fortaleza and Corinthians beat Botafogo 2-0 in Sao Paulo. Enditem
