THE HAGUE, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- After two wins in a row, AZ and FC Utrecht drew for the first time in the 2019-20 Eredivisie season on Sunday.
AZ drew 0-0 against FC Groningen and FC Utrecht tied 1-1 with Feyenoord in Rotterdam. Also on Sunday, PSV Eindhoven won 2-0 at Heracles Almelo. Steven Bergwijn smashed home the opener and 17-year-old Mohamed Ihattaren scored the second for PSV.
On Saturday, Ajax left it late to defeat VVV 4-1 in Venlo. The individual class of Dusan Tadic and Hakim Ziyech led to the opening goal on the stroke of half-time, with Ziyech scoring from Tadic's assist.
Just after half-time Tadic added a second for Ajax with a penalty. 36-year-old substitute Klaas-Jan Huntelaar notched the third goal, and fellow substitute David Neres also scored. Just before the final whistle Evert Linthorst netted VVV's consolation goal.
Next Tuesday, Ajax play against APOEL Nicosia in the play-offs of the Champions League. Quincy Promes and Ziyech limped off injured against VVV, but according to Ajax coach Erik ten Hag both were taken off as a precaution, with no major worries ahead of the match in Cyprus.
Six teams are now on seven points after three matches in the Eredivisie. Ajax lead on goal difference, followed by AZ, Vitesse, FC Utrecht, Sparta Rotterdam and PSV. Enditem
