YANGON, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized 501 kilograms of ice worth of a street value of 12.525 billion kyats (8.35 million U.S. dollars) in northeastern Shan state, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control on Monday.

The seizure was made near Ho Tint village on Loilem-Taunggyi highway in Loilem township on late Friday when a suspicious car was intercepted by local anti-drug squad.

A search on the car found out that the ice was hidden underneath the floor of the rear part of the car and was confiscated.

The Loilem police station has filed against the suspects under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Last Monday, Myanmar authorities also seized a total of 138,000 stimulant tablets worth of 690 million kyats (460,000 U.S. dollars) from a residential house in Hpakant township, northernmost Kachin state, according to an earlier official report. Enditem
