DHAKA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- In the first seven months of 2019, around 400,000 Bangladeshi job aspirants found overseas employment, a 23 percent dip over the same period last year, an official said Monday.
The official of the country's Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) who requested to be unnamed told Xinhua "Some 384,812 people found jobs abroad in January-July this year, down from 500,356 during the same period in 2018."
He said some 52,058 people found overseas jobs in August this year, up 4.69 percent compared with the same month a year ago.
Of the total overseas employment in the seven months of 2019, the BMET official said more than two-thirds of Bangladeshi workers found jobs in some Middle East countries including the Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.
Some 28,663 found jobs in Saudi Arabia, 5,864 in Oman and 3,703 in Qatar, he said. Singapore recruited 5,630 people from the South Asian nation.
The overseas jobs for Bangladeshis in 2018 stood at 734,181. Enditem
