KABUL -- Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani pledged on Monday to fight against terrorism until the menace of terror networks were dismantled.

HONG KONG -- A Hong Kong court on Monday denied bail to a man involved in assaulting a reporter from the mainland during a recent unlawful assembly at the Hong Kong International Airport.

The Eastern Magistrates' Court adjourned the case, in which the male, 19, was accused of unlawful assembly, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, to Oct. 28 for further police inquiries. (Hong Kong-Court-Bail)

NEW DELHI -- Over 40 people have died in rain-related incidents in India's northern states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab in the last 24 hours, media reports said on Monday.

As many as 24 people lost their lives and several others went missing in rain-related incidents in different districts of Himachal Pradesh. Several district administrations have announced a holiday on Monday in educational institutions due to heavy rains. (India-Rain)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- At least 17 people have been injured as six explosive devices placed by militants went off in parts of Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Monday, provincial governor's spokesman Attaullah Khogiani said.

All the victims, some in critical conditions, are civilians, the official added. The blasts took place as the people of Afghanistan were celebrating 100th anniversary of their country's Independence Day amid tight security. (Afghanistan-Explosion)

TOKYO -- Russian residents and officials visited Nemuro in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido on Monday to begin an inspection tour related to garbage processing, ahead of one of the joint economic projects between Tokyo and Moscow slated to start on disputed islands.

The five-day visit, under a visa-free program between the two countries, will see residents from Kunashiri, one of the disputed islands, along with officials from Russia's Sakhalin, inspect a waste incineration plant and a recycling facility. (Russia-Japan-Hokkaido) Enditem
