Suva City Watch, a new partnership to fight crime in Fiji’s capital city

SUVA, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Suva City Watch Scheme is a new partnership between local authorities, business owners and other voluntary organizations, setting up to fight against the rising crime and drug use in Suva, capital of Fiji.

According to Fijivillage news website on Tuesday, organizing citizen patrols and creating public transparent profiles of criminals are some of the objectives of the scheme.

It plans to create a team of volunteers that will carry out city patrols. The plan will involve volunteers and all of them will accept basic law enforcement training.

People are welcome to register as volunteers on the official Facebook page, which requires both physically fit and can ride a bicycle.

Earlier this month, Fijian police warned people including tourists to be vigilant especially in towns and cities as there were criminals going around attacking people for money and any valuables. Enditem
