SEOUL -- Stephen Biegun, U.S. special representative for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) affairs, said Wednesday that his country was ready to engage in working-level talks with Pyongyang for the Korean Peninsula's denuclearization.

Biegun made the remark after a meeting in Seoul with Lee Do-hoon, South Korea's special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, according to local media reports. (S.Korea-US-DPRK)

TALUQAN, Afghanistan -- A total of 18 militants have been killed as fighting aircraft targeted Taliban positions in parts of beleaguered Eshkamish district in the northern Takhar province, provincial governor's spokesman Mohammad Jawad Hajari said Wednesday.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump Tuesday signaled support for inviting Russia back into the Group of 7 (G7), restoring the bloc as the Group of 8 (G8).

Speaking with the press at the White House, Trump said it is "much more appropriate to have Russia in" the G7, adding that "it should be the G8, because a lot of the things we talk about have to do with Russia." (US-Russia-G7)

LAGOS -- Three policemen and one driver were killed Tuesday night after unknown gunmen attacked a deputy governor's convoy in Nigeria's central state of Nasarawa, a police source told Xinhua.

The attack, according to the source, took place as Emmanuel Akabe, the deputy governor of Nasarawa, was on his way to Abuja to attend the swearing-in ceremony for ministers scheduled for Wednesday. (Nigeria-Attack) Enditem
