VIENNA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Naturalizations in Austria have increased 6 percent year-over-year in the first half of 2019 to reach 5,349 people granted citizenship, Statistics Austria revealed on Wednesday.
The increase marks a continued trend observable since 2011, the statistics office said, though naturalizations were up in only five of the country's nine states.
Just over a third of the naturalized people were born in Austria. A further 1,020 newly-naturalized Austrians were from fellow European Union member states.
The majority of "new" Austrians were women on 54.4 percent, while persons aged 18 and under made up 34.6 percent of the total. Enditem
