TOKYO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares rose slightly Thursday morning, although earlier gains on the back of U.S. shares advancing overnight were pared as some investors moved to lock in profits.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 29.30 points, or 0.14 percent, from Wednesday to 20,647.87.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.31 point, or 0.02 percent, at 1,497.82.

Rubber product and chemical-related issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
