LUSAKA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Thursday.

-- Zambia's governing party has invested 46 million U.S. dollars in the procurement of different livestocks to be distributed to 28,000 people across the country.

Kelvin Sampa, Patriotic Front national youth chairman, who launched the initiative, said it was mainly targeting at empowering youths in the country. (Times of Zambia)

-- Lack of effective implementation of austerity measures is negatively affecting the economy as evidenced by the continued pressure on economic fundamentals, Zambia's central bank has said.

Bank of Zambia Governor Denny Kalyalya said implementing austerity measures requires concerted efforts of all stakeholders. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Authorities in Zambia intend to come up with stringent measures and a register to ensure only competent and skilled health personnel are allowed to practice in the country.
