GAZA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 122 Palestinians were injured on Friday during clashes with Israeli soldiers in eastern Gaza, close to the border with Israel, medics said.
Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the Health Ministry in Gaza, told reporters that among the injured demonstrators, 50 were injured by Israeli soldiers' gunfire and three field paramedics were injured.
Hundreds of Palestinian demonstrators gathered earlier on Friday afternoon close to the border between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel waving Palestinian flags and joining the 71th Friday of the anti-Israel rallies known as the Great March of Return.
The highest commission of the marches of return called on the Gaza Strip's population to join the weekly protests on the border and called the activity the day of "Supporting Jerusalem. "
Clashes broke out with Israeli soldiers, according to eyewitnesses, where Israeli media reported that around five homemade grenades were thrown at the soldiers stationed on the border; no injuries were reported among the soldiers.
The Palestinian eyewitnesses said that dozens of Hamas activists wearing orange jackets were seen near the borders with Israel and were pushing demonstrators away from the fence of the border to avoid more casualties. Enditem
