ABUJA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The governor of restive Nigeria's northeast state of Borno Babagana Zulum on Friday stressed on the need to re-evaluate the nation's security architecture in order to make it more efficient and effective.

The governor, who was in Abuja to brief Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on recent Boko Haram attacks on villages in the state, told reporters that security forces need to redouble their efforts in bringing the menace to an end.

Zulum said the insurgents gained entry into some areas unchallenged as the security personnel and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were believed to have fled to nearby bushes to take cover.

He said CJTF in the state would be strengthened to enhance their capacity, as they are critical to ending insurgency in the state.

Zulum attributed the increasing violent activities of Boko Haram insurgents in Borno to the fact the state borders three countries--Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

He said the state's porous borders had further worsened its security challenges.

The northeast region has been destabilized for over a decade by Boko Haram, which most notoriously kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls in 2014.

Boko Haram is known for its agenda to maintain a virtual caliphate in the most populous African country. Enditem
