-- The Zambian government says it will analyze the profitability of resuming electricity import in light of the anticipated increase in power cuts by the country's power utility.
Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Emeldah Chola said the ministry was expected to convene a meeting soon to further scrutinize the current state of the electricity industry before taking additional short-term measures to address the power deficit. (Times of Zambia)
-- The Zambian government says it will not delay to pay the next installment of over 1.3 million U.S. dollars to a contractor working on a bridge being constructed in conjunction with Botswana.
Minister of Finance Bwalya Ng'andu said the government will now not delay in making the payment for the Kazungula Bridge so that the project could be completed on time. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- The Zambian government, with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), will give more than 2,000 goats to smallholder farmers in Mafinga district in the northern part of the country as part of efforts to empower them.
District Commissioner Vivian Namwayi said the initiative is under the project Climate Resilience of Agricultural Livelihoods in Agro-Ecological Region and would target women, youths and other vulnerable groups. (Daily Nation)
