BERLIN, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Goals from Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen helped RB Leipzig see off Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in the second round of matches in Germany's Bundesliga on Sunday.

Leipzig made a bright start in front of their home crowd as Poulsen flicked on a corner to give Werner all the time in the world to beat Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp in the 10th minute.

Frankfurt tried to respond but Leipzig continued to create chances, with Werner squandering a promising chance on 18 minutes.

The visitors went in search of an equalizer but neither Goncalo Paciencia nor Filip Kostic were able to restore parity despite good chances in the closing moments of the first half.

After the restart, Leipzig assumed control and should have doubled their lead but Trapp was on guard to deny Werner following a one-on-one situation three minutes into the half.

Frankfurt pressed forward but were unable to test Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, while the hosts focused on counter attacks.

Leipzig's strategy paid off as they made it 2-0 after substitute Emil Forsberg's cross found Poulsen, who volleyed home to put the victory beyond doubt.

Undaunted, Frankfurt kept working and were rewarded in the closing period when Paciencia's effort reduced the arrears, but Leipzig held firm and closed out the win.

"A draw would have been fair," acknowledged Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann. "It was a lucky victory but it is a victory that has to delight us. We didn't play as well as we did last week against Union Berlin."

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg also made it two wins from two with a clinical 3-0 victory away to Hertha Berlin, with Wout Weghorst, Josip Brekalo and Jerome Roussillon among the goals. Enditem
