COLOMBO, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lanka army has re-assured foreign tourists that Sri Lanka was safe for travel as the government had taken all precautionary measures to arrest all those behind the Easter Sunday terror explosions, local media reported Friday.
Sri Lanka Army Operations Director Brigadier Upali Rajapaksa told journalists that the government had beefed up security in several areas across the island and tourists could visit safely.
"We can assure that Sri Lanka is safe to travel from North to South to West to East," Rajapaksa said.
Following the deadly attacks on Easter Sunday in April, he said that security forces took all steps to stop possible escalation of violence by providing an adequate number of troops on the ground, which helped prevent the situation developing into an ethnic conflict.
He said to date, 162 suspects had been taken into custody over the terror attacks. Enditem
