RIO DE JANEIRO -- "Of course it is slow-paced. The economy is like a cruise ship; things do not happen instantly," Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said Friday.

Bolsonaro celebrated the 0.4-percent rise in Brazil's gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2019 compared with the first quarter, but also admitted that the economic recovery cannot be considered fast.

WASHINGTON -- "The assertion that China is suffering from a crisis of employment as a result of the tariffs imposed by the United States is, therefore, not based on the evidence," said Nicholas Lardy, a senior fellow at Peterson Institute for International Economics based in Washington D.C.

In an article published Thursday, Lardy refuted President Donald Trump's argument that China has lost millions of jobs as a result of his tariffs, and wrote that the employment decline in China's manufacturing sector primarily reflects improved labor productivity and the slowing growth of broad manufacturing relative to services.

KIEV -- "China and Ukraine are traditionally friendly states and strategic partners. Over the years, the two countries have been conducting business cooperation in various fields, based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, which has brought real profits to their people," Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Du Wei said Friday.
