TRIPOLI, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Higher Commission of Refugees (UNHCR) on Sunday said that 10,500 displaced Libyans have received humanitarian aid since the armed conflict began in April in and around Libya's capital Tripoli.
"A total of 119,925 people have been displaced since clashes started in Libya in April and many are living in collective shelters or relocated with family members. UNHCR reached 10,500 people with humanitarian assistance but more support is needed," UNHCR tweeted.
The UN-backed government of Libya has been engaged in a deadly armed conflict since early April in and around Tripoli against Khalifa Haftar's eastern-based army, which is trying to take over the city and overthrow the UN-backed government.
Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid insecurity and chaos ever since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011. Enditem
