HONG KONG -- Carrying a gun, real or replica, could have dire consequences, a Hong Kong police spokesman warned protesters at a press conference on Monday.

When someone draws a gun, there is no way for police to tell if it's real or not. "The police would respond with force if a gun is pointed at anyone. That could have the most severe consequences," said Tse Chun-chung, chief superintendent of the Hong Kong Police Public Relations Branch. (Hong Kong-Gun)

TOKYO -- Shotaro Yachi, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's national security advisor, will likely retire when the Cabinet is reshuffled next week, sources with knowledge of the matter said Monday.

According to the sources, Shigeru Kitamura, 62, Japan's top intelligence officer, may be tapped to replace Yachi, 75, a former top Foreign Ministry official, in a reshuffle slated for Sept. 10 or 12, the sources said. (Japan-Cabinet)

PHNOM PENH -- Visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said here on Monday that the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will benefit all participating countries.

The BRI, a reference to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, was proposed by China in 2013 with the aim of building a trade, investment, and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes. (Cambodia-Malaysia-BRI)

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- At least six police officers were killed and 17 people wounded in a suicide bomb blast in northern embattled Afghan Kunduz city on Monday, an Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed.

"A suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest outside a Highway Police Station. The latest information found six security personnel were martyred and 17 people were wounded in the incident," Nasrat Rahimi told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Police) Enditem
