TOKYO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks surged on Thursday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock average recovering above the 21,000 line for the first time since Aug. 1, after investor sentiment was bolstered by eased concerns over current trade issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 436.80 points, or 2.12 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,085.94.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 27.65 points, or 1.84 percent, at 1,534.46.

All industry categories closed in positive territory, with precision instrument, marine transportation, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprising those that gained the most by the close of play. Enditem
